John Ruit, Jr., age 94 of Wyckoff, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.
Born in Paterson, John was raised on the family farm in Wyckoff. He lived and worked and volunteered for the remainder of his life there. John worked in the bottling plant at Garden State Farms in Wyckoff for many many years before his retirement. He joined Sicomac Engine Company #3 of the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Dept. when he was 21 years old. John served in many capacities during his tenure with the fire company, including Deputy Chief. He was a member of the Faith Community Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff. Surviving are his devoted sons, John Ruit III and his wife Nina and Robert S. Ruit. He also leaves three grandchildren, Steven and his wife Jessica, John Daniel and his wife Jen and Shuamal Klatch, 2 great grandchildren, Lucas Gregory and Sawyer Anthony, his sisters Catherine Lindsey and Ruth Geveke, and his daughter-in-law, Sandy Ruit. John was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy (nee Degelman) in 2015, his brothers Al and James Ruit and his sister, Dorothy Vriesma. The Ruit family will receive friends on Friday, 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM with a Fire dept. service at 7:30 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Funeral services will be held Saturday 10:00 AM at the Faith Community Christian Reformed Church, 530 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff. Interment will follow in the Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery.
